An opal doublet is a composite stone consisting of two layers; a top layer of precious opal and a bottom black layer, usually ironstone, basalt, or black potch. This combination not only enhances the opal's vibrant colors but also makes it more affordable than an entirely solid Opal.
Due to the layered nature of an Opal doublet, care should be taken not to wear in water.
